My first trip to Rajasthan was nearly 4 years ago, when I was 18 . I spent 3 amazing days in the marvelous city of Jaipur. There was a very pleasing, old-warm charm to the entire place, with some of the most breathtaking architectural marvels. That short trip stayed with me over the years because of how much I loved it.
Six years later, again I got an opportunity for traveling to Rajasthan, this time in Udaipur. I had not travelled to Udaipur before and this time I was excited to see the city of lakes.
Popularly known as the “Venice of the East” or the “Lake City”, Nestled between Lake Pichola and Aravalli Range, this alluring city has left a great impression on many!
I managed to reach Udaipur by 6:30am, by then I was still quite lost to be honest. I took an auto and reached a place called Hanuman ghat near lake Pichola.
I instantly started liking the place. The narrow streets, the easy going way of living, the sound of temple bells, lots of foreigners, the smell of food, the royal architecture, the choice of colors and the choice of cloths. There was an undeniable calmness in the air.
In breakfast I had famous food of Rajasthan (pyaz kachori with Lassi) I was set to explore the town.
Lake Pichola
My first destination was Lake Pichola , Pichola Lake is an artificial freshwater lake and one of the largest and oldest lakes in Udaipur. It is famous for its scenic beauty & surroundings. Basically, it’s the tourist hotspot there , I had hired a boat for the day and go to the lake, or you can even take a sunset boat ride .
City Palace
The Udaipur City Palace is one of the main, attraction in Udaipur, the history of this place tells about the strength of the sisodia clan of Rajput’s , let me start with the gorgeous 4 centuries old city palace.
The place itself is unique as it lies in the middle of the city on the banks of the lake pichola , the city palace has awed all its visitors including me.
Jag Mandir Palace
Jag Mandir is a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola. It is also called the “Lake Garden Palace”. An exquisite palace that looks like a floating marble structure in a lake is a sight to behold as one visits the alluring Lake Pichola. This palace known as Jagmandir or Jag Island Palace is located on the southern side of the lake and occupies the island with the same name known as Jag Island. More commonly known as “Lake Garden Palace”, Jagmandir Isla is an impressive structure that is flocked by tourists in huge numbers.
Vintage Car Museum
One of the best things to do in Udaipur for vintage car lovers and thrill junkies is checking out the Vintage & Classic Car Collection Museum. Often people are interested in witnessing the preservation of vintage and classical cars. This museum gives a golden chance to all car lovers to get a rare insight into the maintenance and upkeep of the cars of old or those which had appeared in our favourite movies and television shows.
